Welcome to Buttons-PIM !

PimFind ScreenShot

I have written the BUTTONS... series of programs for my fellow Senior Citizens
(Buttons... FAVS , PIM , SORT) .
In my programs you will find only BUTTONS...
NO MORE searching thru endless arrays of drop-down menus .
Keeping it simple , intuitive and hugely useful is my goal .

Buttons-PIM is actually two programs , PimClip which runs in stealth mode collecting information , and PimFind which is the Search Engine portion of the Buttons-PIM Suite . See also : PimClip-Help.html
Buttons-PIM Suite is a powerful , easy to use , Clipboard based 'Personal Information Manager' (pim) . PimClip builds a freeform information database of files in .txt format and PimFind Searches/Finds and Displays this information .
PimClip/PimFind are downloaded as a single .zip file named PimClip.zip which contains the following files :

File: PimClip-Help.html : Which is the file you are now reading .
File: PimClip.exe The PimClip executable program itself .
File: PimFind.exe The PimFind executable program itself .
File: TopicsBtnList.txt Contains a list of User created Topic Buttons .
File: PimClip_PimFind-Images.html Contains screenShot images .
Files the PimClip files (named like this '2020-04-17.txt' , one File for each day) .
Files: PimFind also creates files and saves the most rescent for each type of FIND request .
File: 2020-04-17.txt : This file is provided for testing out the PimFind program .
It contains some examples under the Button Name GUITAR .
File: Listings.txt Contains a list of selected file names from the most recent FIND request .
File: CollectedTopicHits.txt Contains results of last Search/Find request , sorted in descending order .

Getting Started : Here is a rundown of program Buttons and what they do :

At the top-left of the PimFind screen is a display-box , that shows where the PimFind program and its' *.txt files reside . You can change to a different location by clicking on the Browse   Button , and stepping thru the Windows Folder listings . All searches are restricted to the Folder shown in this display-box .

Exit Button . You can Exit the program by clicking on this Button .

Clicking on the Help Button , will open up the PimFind-Help.html file that you are now reading .

Next row down on the left , is the Find Button .
To the right of the 'Find' Button are two 'input boxes' where you enter the word(s) you want to search for . You must always enter at least one search argument ( into left input box) .
After you have entered you search argument(s) , click on the Find Button , to start he search .
Btw: about searching:
Each time you copy text to the Clipboard , PimClip prePends a (user specified) Topic-tag (Button Name) to the text and then saves the Topic-tag + the copied text to a file . Here is what a Topic-tag looks like once it is stored into the database: "~~ToDo~~" (without the quotes) .
Let's say , you want to search for all occurrences of the word "ToDo" . If you just enter "todo" as a search arg , you will get back all the lines/files that contain the word "todo" .
However , if you enter "~~todo" or "~~todo~~" , you will get back only the lines/files that are prePended with the Topic "~~todo~~" . Big difference .

Next in the row (after the two input boxes) , is a Buton named
Open Search Results As File  . This Button will copy all the displayed search Results and create a file (CollectedTopicHits.txt) from the Results window . This could be useful if perhaps you wanted save all your "Contacts" into one file .
If you are going to save your searches , I recommend that you RENAME the "CollectedTopicHits.txt" file .
Using the "Contacts" example , RENAME it to perhaps "Contacts.txt" .

Next row down contains Two_ListView-Boxes , which show Search Hits Results .
Both List-Views are in Descending order , most rescent date first .
The left-most List-Box shows the FileName in which the hit(s) occured .
By Double-Clicking an entry in this box the program will open up the named file in Windows Notepad .

The right-most List-Box shows the actual 'Hit Lines Found' .
By Double-Clicking on a line in this box the program will open up the named file positioned at the Clicked-On-Line in Windows Notepad .

At the very bottom are two Text-Boxes showing the tally of Total File Hits and
and Total Line Hits

Download / Install

Download PimClip.zip from sourceforge.net

Install Instructions:
Once you have downloaded PimClip.zip  , you can unzip/install it anywhere .
PimClip/PimFind are totally 'portable' , they do not alter the Registry .
For simplicity and ease of access , I planted it here: "C:\Buttons\PimClip" .
